My brother was transferred to this hospital for cardiac issues. Long Beach Medical Center allegedly has one of the best cardiac departments in the country. If that's truly the case, I saw no evidence of it. The nurses were nice enough but were almost allergic to doing their job of actually taking care of him. In fact, his wife was fortunately there often enough to sort of pick up the slack for them. They didn't notice his liver was starting to jaundice until she pointed out the yellow in his eyes. They only started doing something about his bed sores after she put in a formal complaint. By then it was too late and he later had to get surgery to remove some of the fat on his butt because of how bad it'd gotten. He went in complaining about back pain. She tried to follow up to get them to do something about it. They consistently failed to do so and he eventually sat in that hospital bed for months with no circulation in his legs. When they realized their mistake led to him no longer being able to walk, they offered no apology or means of fixing the situation. They just shrugged their shoulders and moved on like it was nothing. At no point did I feel like my brother received quality care at this facility. In fact, this is only the tip of the iceberg of their collective negligence, poor management, and over lack of empathy for the people they call patients. If it was up to me, this facility would receive a massive overhaul, and staff would be evaluated -- and punished accordingly -- for their genuine willingness to show up for those in their care (or the lack thereof). Long story short, Long Beach Medical Center could care less about its patients. Don't go there unless you have absolutely no choice!
