I arrived at their clinic 15 minutes early, as instructed, for my third sleep study (the CPAP titration) only to find their closed. I called the phone number on the paperwork (it's the only phone number I have for them but I never know who's going to answer: appointment scheduling, the receptionist, the lab techs, the answering service) though the paperwork clearly states that if I call that number it will be answered by the technician doing the study. Instead I got an answering service who couldn't care less that I'd been stood up by these people. It also says on their paperwork that if I don't show for my appointment, they'll charge me $200. I wasted 3 hours of my sick leave to get off work for this appointment (that's worth about $240 at my hourly rate but I doubt they care what they've cost me). This is extremely unprofessional behavior. And nothing was ever explained to me about pricing or payment. I gave them my insurance information and assumed everything would be covered because they never said there'd be a cost to me. I had two diagnostic sleep studies (the second one was done in-home because the results of the first one were inaccurate since I slept so poorly at their facility) and two follow ups to explain the results of those studies, and at the second follow up the receptionist said I had a $20 copay and I had to pay in cash or check. Seriously? Who doesn't take credit cards these days? Not only was I surprised that all of a sudden they want me to pay when they never did before, but it sounds sketchy that there's a copay just to get the results of my test.
